Abstract
A short visual feature on six contemporary Chinese artists who reinterpret Guo Xi’s treatise Linquan Gaozhi in oil painting, photography, ink and other media. Drawing on Walter Benjamin’s critique of linear history, the authors read the internal structure of shanshui in these works as a system of repeated metaphors.
