These three lectures are designed for anyone interested in understanding the differences between Western concepts of landscape painting and Shanshui painting.
We will examine Western and Chinese history and culture to discern critical features that characterize the natural environment’s two different views.

— Why the term “landscape” is different than referring to Shanshui hua,
— Formal differences between landscape painting and Shanshui hua,
— Differences in Western and Chinese scholars’ approach in depicting or utilizing the natural environment.
